what the style is:

Penny Loafer

Penny loafers are classic American styling, identified by their "penny" strap that lays across the tongue. This is a "half strap" style, where the strap reaches the moccasin-style apron stitching, but dues not extend any further.

what it's lasted on:

Saint Helens Last

The Saint Helens last is the chisel last of our JF line. It is slightly elongated, but less so than our J. FitzPatrick line chisel lasts; it ultimately fits very true to size with a medium instep and a cut that closely follows the contours of the foot.  We recommend keeping your standard size with the Saint Helens last.

The Saint Helens is a classic medium-fitting last:
-Medium forefoot (neither too wide nor too narrow)
-Medium instep, not as generous as our J.FitzPatrick Line lasts
-Good for medium width feet
-Slightly elongated last, yet very shaped to foot length/profile

what you'll be standing on:

Street Walker Sole

The "Street Walker" sole is an open-channel, combination leather and rubber design. Leather heel stacks and mid soles are topped with rubber to create an all-weather capable finish.

size guidance

As a standard rule for our loafers, we cut them more snugly compared to our laced shoes in the same size.

The Washington loafer is as close a fit to an unlined loafer that we have, due to its lowcut pattern and deconstructed side panels. We recommend you stick to your regular oxford size for a standard width fit. If you are narrow, you will need to size down at best. Potentially it might not work at all if you are a true narrow. A true wide foot will have a difficult time fitting this loafer.

Similar in sizing to the Carmina Uetam loafer and Crockett & Jones Cavendish with a bit more play in the heel.

Length: Elongated (circa 1 inch of space at toe)
Width: Standard
Instep: Low Cut (generous)

Exactly what I wanted.

Beautiful right out of the box. After a few days of breaking them in, they're starting to feel very comfortable. Love the lines - these are much more stylish than your average penny loafer. I'm looking forward to stepping up the JF ladder with my next loafer purchase...if the JF Line shoes are this nice, I can't imagine how great the J. Fitzpatrick models must be.
